Concrete Reveries

Concrete Reveries
September 2008

Mark asked for help sourcing and clearing images to compliment the aesthetic reveries of his philosophical text, Concrete Reveries (Viking Canada, 2008).

Loosely centred on tensions between the immediacy and dormant complexity of consciousness and the city — the book's subtitle — imagery provides visual context for arguments as they’re laid out while parsing underlying metaphors and themes.

Primarily culled from creative commons and public domain archives, the final series (about 75 images) benefits from additional archival work by Wendy Banks. Cover photo by Geoffrey James.

Not a catalogue of style.

My practice is a process of visual problem solving, an attempt to fully realize and communicate messages graphically.

It’s not a typeface or a colour palette, not a rehashing of contemporary trends or a favourite era in design’s history.

The look and feel (style) of my work is always searching, looking forward and backward for better ways to say things to people.

What is a ‘faunt’?

Faunt is David Owen Morgan, freelance illustrator, graphic designer, design consultant, writer, hand-holder and leader. I graduated from the University of Toronto in 2007. I have been working in design ever since.
